In Memory

Meredith Rae Boyle (McClendon)

Meredith Rae Boyle McClendon was born April 26, 1946 in Spokane WA, and died in Issaquah WA on November 30, 2011 from a 24-year battle with breast cancer. She fought the cancer long enough to see her two young children grow into successful adults, know two beautiful young granddaughters. Meredith was born to John Boyle and Arline Cambell in Spokane WA as the oldest of four children; she grew up in Spokane, and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1964. Meredith attended Washington State University where she earned a degree in Education. She joined the Pi Beta Phi sorority, like her mother and grandmother before her. Meredith met her husband, Robert McClendon, at WSU at the fraternity across the street. She graduated, got married, and moved to Seattle to start her adult life. Surviving Meredith are her two children, two grandchildren, and her partner, Jerry Bopp. Meredith spent her professional life as a middle school English teacher.  Ultimately, her body was too sick and tired to continue. She had fought her illness long enough, raised two children, taught countless others, and loved/was loved by a wonderful man, Jerry Bopp. She passed on to allow her spirit to carry on as she had previously in her life.

Really sad to hear of Meredith's passing, especially since I have relatives in Issaquah & get there semi-frequently. Meredith and I shared many delightful hours together between Manito park ice skating, Roosevelt grade school, Camp Fire Girls, & being in kitty corner sorority houses at WSU. Pi Phis and Kappas did a lot of joint activities together. And the Anderson twins were just down the street. Good memories for sure...all of them. I'm sure Meredith is continuing to share her spirit!! RIP Meredith

Meredith & I had waaay too much fun in Ti Girls (under Miss Danke's watchful eyes, our attempt of sneaking out to a Beatnik Bar in Victoria, Canada during a Ti Girl trip was foiled!).  We continued that friendship at WSU as pledge sisters together in Pi Beta Phi & living in the house for 4 years.  Meredith was smart as a whip, clever as could be..... with a heart of gold.  You are missed dear "crass child"!
