Joseph Ray Ellman In fall of 1965 Joe joined the Army and completed paratroop training in March was killed in combat in Viet Nam in spring 1966 at age 20.  Joe joined the Army with his good friend Will Barton soon after Barton graduated from LC. Whether the two members of the 101st Airborne Division, the "Screaming Eagles," were together when they were hit was not known. Joe died "of gunshot wounds while on combat operations."  They trained at Ft. Ord CA and Ft. Gordon GA and graduated from jump school at Ft. Benning GA.  Ellman was born in Riverside CA and had lived in Spokane since his family moved here in 1953. He attended Adams Grade School and was graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in June 1964.  He was in swimming at the high school, and worked for about a year before joining the Army. Joe was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon A. Ellman. His survivors include two sisters, Mrs. James (Patty) Bro of Spokane, and Miss Linda Mae, 19. at the home.
