Susan Eleanor (Gage) Hageman, age 77 of Republic WA passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024. She was raised in Spokane, graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in 1964. Susan became in RN and lived and worked in Republic.
I got to know Susan after our 50th Class Reunion when I realized that she lived and worked in Republic, my home town. We go up there every Memorial weekend as my parents are buried there where my Dad was the only doctor in Ferry County from 1948-1961. I did not know her in high school, but she was a close friend to Lynda Moylan Koch, and she rode up with me to Republic for a meeting with her a few years ago. Susan's husband died a couple of years ago, and she continued to live in their home with the help of her neighbors.
She was a wonderful nurse, later doing hospice care for many of my friends and relatives. When she retired, we were looking for someone to chair my Dad's "Graham S. McConnell Memorial Scholarship Fund" which was set up to provide all those people in Ferry County who work in the healthcare/medical field to pursue their education in order to give back to the community. She accepted and was honored to fill that position for a number of years before her health started to fail. She eventually lost her voice and we could only communicate by email. She was so kind, considerate, helpful and loving in everything she did, and was quite musically talented also. I was deeply saddened to see her pass, but so very grateful to have had her in my life for so many years! She gave all she had and could to her community. Rest in peace dear friend.
