Loyd Douglas Phillips

I reported for Basic Training at Ft Ord, California, the day after our graduation--missed the parties, me, then enlisted in the Regular Army. They discovered what the recruiters missed: I'm a cholera survivor which bars me from the military. So I came home, earned a BA in History and Social Science from EWSC, and got a job as a caseworker for Social and Health Services. I did that work in rural Central Washington and in King and Spokane Counties before retraining and finishing a 35 year service for the State as a Local Area Network Administrator. Now I'm retired and still living in Spokane with my wife Sally and our Golden Retriever. He's a silly dog but we love him.

I recently found the scrapbook I used to paste the LC Journal articles I wrote when I was on the Journal staff. Next to the scrapbook were some copies of Stylus, a journal of student writing. It was put together by Papyrus Club of submissions from the student body each of the four years I was a club member. It was amazing to read what we wrote and to see again names I haven’t seen for fifty years. There’s some good writing there too.
