I have fond memories of Hilda beginning in 7th grade when we both arrived in Spokane as the new girls at Washington Elementary School in Browne’s Addition.  I remember many fun and funny times together at Washington as we enjoyed sleep-overs with friends, cheerleading, playing pranks, attending the Crescent modeling classes;  serving as Candy Stripers at Deaconess, etc.    We remained good friends throughout high school even after I moved away to Wenatchee in January of my junior year.   We kept in touch in college (her at Barnard/me at UW), but then lost track of each other in the spring of our senior year.  At that point we were world's apart...I was getting married and Hilda was involved in the war protest at Columbia University.  We never connected again after college so reading of her passing was a shock for me as I had been trying to locate her.  Hilda had a great mind, energy, motivation, ambition and was a deep thinker.  She was able to use those qualities to later attend law school & obtain her law degree.  At the time of her death it was noted in the New York times she was employed by Manufacturers Hanover Insurance (later to become JP Morgan/Chase) as an attorney and VP in their firm on Park Avenue, NYC.      I wonder if anyone has any info further information about her.  I don’t believe that her parents are still living and there were no siblings.

I loved Hilda dearly.  We stayed in touch all her life. During college I occasionally spent a weekend in her dorm, which at one point was a hotel, complete with maid service.  Barnard had accepted too many and had to contract with a local hotel.  In addition to working for Manny Hanny she worked for a major NY law firm.  Our firms worked on 1 large antitrust case together;  imagine my surprise when she showed up at my office door in Houston unannounced!  Prior to that she got her masters in teaching at Columbia and taught in the ghetto.  Tough work.  Shortly before her death she bought a home up on the South Hill and planned to spend more time in Spokane.  I'd love to hear any stories anyone else has.  I do miss her.

Hilda was a very egalitarian person. I am not surprised to see that she participated in student protests at Columbia, as did I at UW.
I was very shocked to see that Hilda had passed away. She was so full of life, energetic, very intelligent and a real presence in any group. Since Hilda was able to drive as a junior, we (and other friends) would go to drive-in movies and sing along very loudly to the radio in the car.
I was not suprised to learn that she chose to use her many talents in a contructive, positive way in order to help others. I do think, however, that Hilda would strenuously object to the use of the word "ghetto," as do I. She was much more highly evolved than that.
Rest in perfect peace, Hilda. You deserve it.
