Kathryn Louise Taylor

Kathryn Louise Taylor

Kathryn Louise Taylor died July 13, 2002 at her Redmond WA home. The cause of death was heart failure brought on by complications from lupus. She was 55. Back in the 1970s, before the Sammamish Plateau became a housing developer's paradise, it was a haven for deer, bears and horse lovers like Kathryn Taylor, who once said that in those days the plateau was covered with riding trails "from hell to breakfast." Most of those trails are gone now, but a few remain thanks to Ms. Taylor's activism. In 1988, she formed the King County Executive Horse Council, which helped preserve miles of trails from encroaching development. The group also succeeded in persuading several Eastside cities to create equestrian zoning. The Kathryn Taylor Equestrian Park in Woodinville WA is named for Ms. Taylor in 2012. Kathryn was born in Tacoma in 1946 and grew up in Spokane. She earned her bachelor's degree in music from the University of Washington in 1969 and went on to teach voice at Pacific Lutheran University, but a lupus diagnosis cut her career short in the early 1970s. Kathryn is survived by two brothers.

I remember one day Kathryn was playing a guitar and singing.  I was so shocked that she would perform in front of so many people, I forget what event  that was, anyway, I approached her with my mouth open, and told her I was so shocked at it.  She asked why?  I told her that she came accross as so shy that I never dreamed she would have the guts to do so.  I'll never forget the small little smile she gave me.  She never said a word.  Sorry to hear of her struggles.

Kathryn was a dear friend & lived near me.  She was tall & graceful & loved horses as much as I did!  She had great wit & could be sarcastic, but never cruel!  I will miss you, dear friend.
