The world's Julie Andrews is an elegant, optimistic lady with an inner sparkle. She had the beautiful voice we all heard in Mary Poppins and the Sound of Music.  I don't know if our Julie Andrews could sing, but she sparkled with a radiance that rivaled and surpassed her more famous namesake.

At Sheridan, Libby and LC if I wanted to start my day with a surge of joy, I had only to come within range of Julie's radiant smile.  And there was no acting involved; Julie's bright light came from deep in her soul.  Look at the Libby photo I posted and see it for yourself.

     Last week I began an internet search for a beautiful and delightful girl we knew 50 years ago at Libby Jr. High and LC, but had completely lost track of:  Juliene Andrews.  I was struck with great sadness when I found that she had passed away in 2011.

       During our 9th grade year, Julie was the "first great love of my life".  As it happens so often with most teenage romances, we parted ways after a year or so.  I hadn't seen or known anything about her for nearly 50 years, but I never forgot her.  She was fun and pretty and smart and warm in heart and spirit -- just a joy to be with.  I realize now that our "first loves" leave a haunting and beautiful spot in our souls forever.  As a poet once wrote:

Some people come into our lives and quietly stay;

Others stay for a while

leaving their footprints in our hearts,

and we are never the same.

Rest in peace, Julie.

Julie was a beautiful person and still remember her from Home Economics when she told Mrs. Warnick she swallowed a pin. All was well but she was was smiling and she will be missed and happy to have her footprints on my heart. She also made having Mrs. Warnick for a teacher bearable.

I knew Julie at Libby,  where she introduced me to my first girlfriend.  She was a joyful and radiant person who will be missed.

I was sorry to hear about Juliene. I remember very well when she and Mike Black were going together. She was a very nice person and will be missed.
