A tremenouds shock to hear that Willard passed at such an early age.  We were at Lincoln School together for all of our elementary years.  I can still picture his blond hair that had one big wave pushing it away from his forehead.  The best to his family.  He is still remembered.

Willard was a good friend and I remember when he passed. It is still sad to recall that time although it was long ago. We have unfortunately lost many classmates.

Willie was one of my dearest friends. He had a hard life and upbringing, but he had a brilliant mind (that he tried to hide).  But you didn't know he  was a great fan of Edgar Allen Poe, and read and quoted from his works often. Doesn't sound like the Willie you knew? I was so priviliedged to know another side of him that was so sensitive and passionate. I was in California when our friend's called to say he had died. It was a terrible loss. The wild and crazy juvenille delinquent died of exhaust fumes in hs car while driving back to Spokane from a job in Idaho. If there is a heaven, he will be one of the first people to greet me, I'm sure. Love you Willie.

Willard was one of the few non-Black kids at Libby I could relate to.  He attended Lincoln Elementary so he was comfortable around Black people.  I used to stop by his house every morning & we would walk to Libby together.  He was my silent protector.  Once the White kids knew we were friends, no one dared touch me for fear of Willard giving them a serious beatdown.  RIP dear friend.  I'll always cherish our friendship.
