In Memory

Karin Charlotte Kauper (Lannigan)

Karin Tainio Lannigan December 14, 1945 - August 7, 2021 Karin was born in Augsburg, Germany, and immigrated to the United States with her mother and sister in 1959. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1964 and received her Bachelor and Master's degrees from Eastern Washington State University. She loved books and learning, dreaming of becoming a teacher since childhood. Karin started her teaching career at Roosevelt Elementary and retired from Hamblin Elementary in 2003. She was a creative, hardworking teacher, giving her fourth-grade students work such as German conversation, in-depth science, and projects to inspire individual interests and abilities. In 2002, Karin was given a Distinguished Teacher award from Spokane District 81.  Wanting to continue to serve, after retirement Karin volunteered for Hospice of Spokane for ten years. She and her husband also traveled frequently to Germany and other countries to explore the cultures and visit family and friends. They also wintered in Palm Desert, enjoying the sunshine and more family and friends. She indulged her husband's love of Model As, participating with him in parades and a live-action documentary, The Rum Runners, about Spokane during Prohibition. Karin is survived by her husband, Dan; sons Marc Tainio, Jeff, Tim and Sean Lannigan, their spouses, ten wonderful grandchildren, and her sister Heidi Reese. There will be a private graveside service for family and friends on October 8 at 11:00 AM at Riverside Memorial Terrace, Spokane WA.

Karin was a truly inspiring teacher who was instrumental in my son's decision to become a researcher.
