Garry Wallace Martin, age 69, passed on to his next chapter on Wednesday, November 4th, 2015. He was born on January 25, 1946 in Spokane, WA to Wallace H. Martin and Evelyn V. Martin. Garry graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in 1964 and attended Eastern Washington State College (now Eastern Washington University) after high school. From 1965 to 1970, he served in the U.S. Navy as an EM2. Prior to active duty, Garry began his career with Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor. He continued to work for the railroad for over 20 years thereafter. He enjoyed many hobbies that included music, cars, sports, hi-fi electronics, model airplanes and trains. A kind soul with a great sense of humor, Garry always identified himself as a 'Pepper'. Garry is survived by his loving wife Patti; daughter, Stacy Wood; and his granddaughter, Emma Wood. He was predeceased by his sister, Charmaine E. Gaffaney. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 9th at 2:15 p.m. at Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Rd., Medical Lake, WA 99022.

I remember Garry as a good student and very well liked at Libby and Lewis and Clark. He had beutiful red hair and a good smile that was very assuring when greeting someone. Comfort for his family and friends.

I grew up just a couple of blocks from Garry. I remember early on, he had a TV Guide route. I think he made about $.15 per issue. I also remember first day of 7th grade PE and Gene Lister was get our names. The problem was there was a second Garry Martin. Lister was OK with that, he decided to ask the number of Rs in their first name, Oppps, both were two Rs. So next Lister wanted to use middle initial, both were W. Now Lister is getting a little upset, so he went to the full middle name, don't remember the other Garry's name, but Wallace got Garry ahead in the line. I remember a lot of snickering, but Lister held it together. I also remember Gary have a shell of a model T roadster, but at our age it was a beauty. R.I.P. Garry.

I am so sad in learning of Garry's death. He was such a great friend to many of us. Garry, Bert Beatty, later Dick Thurber (also deceased), Mike Farmer, Ken Elliot and several other friends forged a tight bond with one another. Garry was alway one of the guys that totally accepted everyone. I never saw him mean spirited, angry, or anthing but caring and wanting to help. His skill with hot rods was amazing, his willingness to help his mother and father whom were diasabled was inspiring. He always took a backseat when we (as juvenile deliquents) were getting into trouble. He participated sometimes but never enjoyed it - he had a set of ethics that we actually admired. It took a few years for the rest of us to catch up with his sense of justice and warmth. He supported a wicked sense of humor, and was intelligent. His ability to do math was amazing. It broke my heart when I learned he had alzheimers disease. Garry ...... rest in peace and know that one of the guys from the "Mothers" and EX will never forget you. You were loved.

I just read your post on the passing of Garry Martin. I knew both Martins (Garry and Gary) but I couldn't remember which one had the spelling with two "R"s. Seeing the attached photo, I was sad to see the passing of Garry and recalled what a nice guy he was, and the cool wavy red hair he had. Garry and I played on the Libby Football team together and recalled what a gifted athlete he was. We shared a class learning to play the clarinet (a Beginning Band Class) and he had a beautiful wooden clarinet. And boy, did Garry play a mean clarinet. He was always good at what he had an interest in. I'm sorry I never had the opportunity to see him again after graduating from L.C.
